Aploomb started with a pillow that didn't fit a child. The idea behind it hasn't changed since — we just kept going.
Comfort isn't one-size-fits-all.
A pillow that works for a six-year-old doesn't work for a sixteen-year-old. A pillow that works flat on your back doesn't work turned on your side. Most pillows are designed once and sold to everyone. We'd rather start with the specific way someone actually rests, and build from there.
Like most parents, we handed our kids the same pillow everyone gets — a smaller cover wrapped around the same loft and firmness made for an adult. It never quite fit: too tall for a toddler's neck, and still the wrong height by the time they hit their next growth spurt. Every "kids pillow" we found was really just an adult one, shrunk down and rebranded.
So we built the one we couldn't find: three sizes, each with its own loft and density matched to a real stage of growth — not one height stretched across every age from 1 to 18. That was the first Aploomb pillow, and the idea behind it still shapes everything we make.

The pillow is where we began, because it was the fit problem we felt most directly. But a good night's sleep is bigger than what's under your head — it's every small thing standing between you and actually resting. We're building out from there: more shapes, and eventually more than pillows, for the specific things that get in the way of real sleep.
